Vali Cave in the Landscape of Mirdita

Vali Cave lies east of the village of Perlat in the municipality of Kthelle, within the mountain system of Selita, Mulli, Didhe, and Valmor. It is a striking karst formation in Mesozoic limestone, shaped over a long period by the action of water and tectonic movements. The surrounding elevation ranges from roughly 1,300 to 1,500 metres above sea level, making the cave part of a rugged mountain landscape of deep valleys and passes.

For visitors, its scale is especially important. The entrance area is about 50 to 60 metres wide and extends some 90 to 100 metres into the interior. Inside there is also a vertical opening resembling a chimney, linking the cave to the surface. The limestone walls bear the marks of karst weathering and form a rich array of stalactites and other features that testify to a long geological history.

The cave also has landscape significance. It lies near Vali Pass, which for centuries made foot travel easier between the areas of Perlat and Bruc. In the local setting, it was therefore not only a natural feature but also a landmark within the mountain network of paths and pastures. Although it has not yet been thoroughly studied by specialists, it ranks among the most interesting natural sites in the Mirdita region and represents valuable potential for educational tourism and the protection of the karst landscape.
