Brief overview

The former chateau in Konska stands in what is now a district of Trinec, within the grounds of the Trinec Iron and Steel Works above the Staviska stream, not far from its confluence with the Olsa River. Its present appearance barely recalls chateau architecture, as the building underwent an insensitive reconstruction and lost its heritage protection.

From noble residence to utility building

The village of Konska is documented as early as 1305. It was not until the mid-seventeenth century that Jan Jiri Sobek had a small Baroque chateau built here as a family seat. Ownership then changed hands quickly, passing among the Skrbensky of Hristie, the Gocalkovsky family, and the Pacinsky family. A more significant transformation came only at the end of the eighteenth century, when Jiri Bees of Chrostina engaged the Tesin architect Josef Kornhausel and had the residence remodeled in the Neoclassical style.

Changes in the twentieth century

At the beginning of the twentieth century, the chateau passed into the hands of the Polish Tesin regional association and briefly served as a girls' agricultural school. After 1946, it was incorporated into Trinec and taken over by the ironworks. The subsequent reconstruction altered its appearance and function so profoundly that today it serves as part of the company's facilities. The story of Konska clearly shows how an aristocratic residence gradually found itself in an industrial setting that fundamentally transformed the entire region.
