The Hillfort above Tuhrina

Bodoň was one of the smaller noble hillforts in the Slanské vrchy, standing on a wooded hill north of the village of Tuhrina. Its position on a prominent rocky crag provided natural protection on three sides, while access from the east and south was cut off by a ditch hewn into the bedrock. It was therefore a structure that perfectly matched the needs of a small family seat and a refuge in unsettled times.

The core of the castle had an almost square ground plan, and at its highest point stood a circular stone tower built from local rhyolite. The remaining buildings were probably wooden, which was common for sites of this kind. Today, the most clearly visible features in the terrain are the remains of the perimeter fortification and the outline of the tower.

The history of Bodoň is linked to the family of Budun's sons and to events at the end of the thirteenth century. Written records suggest a connection with the Tatar invasion as well as with a property dispute in 1299. It is precisely at that time that the castle appears in the sources as a place already damaged, but the question of how long it actually existed remains open. Archaeological finds show that the site was inhabited much earlier.
